A Night Out
On Friday the 9th of August I joined some friends for a night out at Pink Punters, a TG friendly night club near Milton Keynes. This would be the eighth time I have attended their "Big Night Out" and every visit has been a great success. I arrived at the Campanile Hotel which is just across the road from Pinks at about three in the afternoon. After booking in and finding my room I quickly changed into a skirt and top as I had arranged to meet Penny for a drink in the bar. The first time I came, venturing out of the hotel room into the corridor was a heart stopping moment, but now it seems so ordinary, with my bag over my shoulder I made my way to the bar.
As always the bar staff are very friendly and treat all the girls just as they would treat anyone else, no matter what they are wearing, and I have to say on some occasions even I have been surprised with what some people regard as suitable clothing! Anyway drink ordered I sat at the bar, if you have never been out and done this, it is something you simply must do. Sitting at the bar with a drink is nothing special, until you remember that just over a year ago I had never done this and to be honest never thought I would. But here I am drink in hand, sitting crosslegged on a bar stool just enjoying the moment!
I had never met Penny face to face, we had been communicating via email for some time but this would be the first time 'in the flesh'. There is always a lot of concern about meeting someone via the internet, and quite rightly so, you just never know who is sitting at that computer screen somewhere in internet world. But with a bit of due diligence and common sense it is possible to meet some really lovely people, people I would never have met in any other way. Penny was running a little late due to roadworks, but met me in the bar about half an hour later. We had a great conversation, just talking about girly things and letting Penny know what the form was for the evening as the was her very first night out!
We then returned to our rooms to get ready for the evening, before I continue with my story, jut a few words about the Campanile Hotel. It's not the best in the world, some of the decoration is tired, the rooms are clean and tidy but a bit dated and sometimes it can be pricy, they have a habit of increasing prices when there is something on at Pinks. However the staff are lovely, they make us feel very welcome and comfortable and are always very polite. The other big advantage over other hotels in the area is that Pinks is just across the road, so when you've had enough in the club, it's just a short walk back, no messing about with taxis etc. So all in all, we consider it the best option for us when going to Pinks.
I changed into my dress, I had selected a floral dress that I bought a year ago, but had not had the chance to wear so far, with white low heel sandals. Four and a half inch heels are lovely, and I love wearing them, but on a evening like this that'll probably go on until 3 to 4 in the morning (or later as the club is open until 06.30!) a bit of comfort is needed. I know only too well as I have made the mistake of wearing heels that are too high and finished up walking back to the hotel wearing a hole in the foot of my tights, whilst carrying my heels in hand!
Back into the bar to meet Penny and Susie, we then sat down to a meal, once the meal was finished we had a few drinks whilst engaging in a bit of people watching. It is always lovely to see other lovely girls out enjoying themselves. Samantha joined us and we continued chatting until about 10 pm. At one point a genetic girl bumped into me, after a lit bit of banter and joking, she rubbed her hand on my arm and told me how lovely and soft my skin was, not a compliment I have ever received before, she then looked my up and down and said I looked very glamorous, that was a real treat!
We went over to the club, as I have said just across the road, as it is BNO, if there is a queue (there wasn't on Friday) us girls are directed straight to the front. We paid our £9 entrance fee, had the back of our hands stamped and we were in. This is a very odd building, I'm guessing it was some sort of industrial building before being converted to a club. For the most part it has a dark industrial feeling, a lot of steel is used on stairs etc and most of it is painted black. We purchased a drink, a pint of lager is about £4 in the club, which is about the national average for beer in a pub and less than London, so certainly not extortionate by any means. We then sat by one of the open fires, chatted and watched the world go by. This part of the club is actually open to the sky, lovely and warm by the fires, but in very cold weather it can get quite cold if you are away from the fires, and if it rains the floor (which is not flat) can become a tad difficult to negotiate in heels!
There are several bar / dance floors down stairs, upstairs there is a plush cocktail bar, which is where we went next. This area was refurbished late in 2018 and is very light, reasonably quiet and very comfortable. They only sell cocktails here (about £9 each, which I am informed is the going price elsewhere) but you can bring a drink into here from the bars down stairs. I never saw this area in it's previous incarnation, so I can not comment if it is any better. A number of people who remember how it used to be, say it's not as good, well that may be the case I don't know, but to survive all businesses must move with the times and I sure the owner would not have invested a vast amount of money on this part of the club on a whim, cocktails are big business so it's a service the club has to offer to survive. We love this part of the club as you can sit in comfort and chat and take plenty of photos in the Pink Room.
After a while the other girls actually managed to get me downstairs to the dance floor to get me 'dancing', I say dancing for lack of another suitable word, but if you think of 'dad dancing in heels' you will get the rather unfortunate picture! The music was very loud and seemingly endless just going on and on, what happened to DJ's changing records, at least then you had the chance to slope off before the next one started!
All in all a great night, getting back to the hotel after 03.30, will I come again? certainly, I'm looking forward to September already!
"...staff are lovely, they make us feel very welcome and comfortable and are always very polite."
ReplyDeleteI think that's fab. They don't have to be and I think that says a lot about the hotel's culture.
It sounds like you had a great time and what's not to like about an evening spent with friends? You look lovely in that dress too.
Thanks for your comment Lynn, you are right, the hotel doesn't have to be the way they are, but it is of course in their own interests as they get a lot of Pinks customers in there. But I have to say the attitude of the hotel definitely adds to the evening. We always have a great time going again in a few weeks time!
